Woodland is a lot more
than pretty pictures!
First of all- some of you might be
wondering- "Where in the heck is Woodland?!?" Well, here's a
picture.
According to the State of California- there were 52,500 people living
in Woodland on January 1, 2004.
That makes us about the 147th largest city in California, and the 621st
largest city in the US. There are 17,120 housing units. The city of Woodland
covers 10.3 square miles.
In the 2000 census, the ethnicity breakdown was:
- 53% white
- 1% black
- 4% Asian
- 39% Hispanic
- 3% 'other'
The average household income is $52,035. The per capita income is $18,042.
Cost of living is about 111% of the national average.
We get about 17.3 inches of rain in the average year. July's temperature
average is about 93 degrees. January is about 38 degrees.
There are 16,751 households out of which 40.1% have children under the
age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together,
12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% are
non-families. 21.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4%
have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average
household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.37.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of
18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and
10.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For
every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and
over, there are 92.5 males.

Woodland is a nice town, but these people have their work cut out
for them when they have a 'tourism' link on their website.
And why in the heck do they have pictures of what looks like a birch
forest? |

The first time we drove to Woodland, I said "It is a mile long and a block wide". Now I have lived here for 10 years and think it is a great place to live.

the fact that someone from Woodland said Dacis was ok "minus the liberals and gay people" has made me decide never to come to Woodland and instead to stay in Davis on my trip up north. Nothing worse than a town with intolerant ignoramuses.

Blair, I guess you read the message wrong. The person who made the comment about 'liberals and gay people' is FROM Davis. He thinks it is a better town except for those two groups.
If there is one thing I learned during my timing living in Davis, is that everyone in Davis wants everyone else to think and act just like they do.

I guess you can say, I am from Woodland, am I proud of it, not really. I wasn't born there, but grew up there. Strange but it has happened, when I was in Atlanta I saw someone from Woodland, when I was in Washington DC, I saw someone from Woodland, When I lived in Arizona, I saw two people from Woodland, when I went to Disney World, I saw a family from Woodland, and every stinkin year that I go down to LA, a Woodlander. Even crazier, they don't remember me. Anyway, I'm john@bandbooster.org and a DJ now on KDVS, listen for me and say hello if you want. Bye now.

I love, love, love this Woodland! I lived in Davis for 8 years (Davis is too stuck-up for my taste) and I have now lived in Woodland for 6 years. I feel more comfortable in this town and love its multi-cultural atmosphere.

Hey English guy,
I live right around the corner from one of the said sex offenders, and he shares a backyard with a daycare. Ex-Sex Offenders who are released back into society are rehabilitaed to the point that police and other law officals can trust them to be in close proximity to children (including the Jr. High I live a block from). By thinking that Woodland isn't safe because of the % of our REHABILITAED sex offenders is not only an insult to the program that helped them get a piece of their former lives and dignity back, but it fuels the stigma that prevents ex-sex offenders from EVER fully re-integrating themselves into our society. If we cannot trust law enforcement or people themselves, what kind of society do we live in? So, the answer is NO, Woodland is not less safe because of 82 "registered sex offenders"
